Roofing calculator as SEO tool

We will soon ad an option to purchase a standard or customized version of our roofing calculator. One of its versions you can see here – Flat Roofing Calculator. We will also have a free standard calculator which you can use on your site by just copying and pasting a small piece of HTML code into your website. The free version of the calculator will be just that – free – but it will have few limitations and will also be supported by ads.

Full version of our roof price calculator, we can customize it to fit your needs: add specific roofing products, roof options such as number of roof penetration flashings, skylight / chimney flashing, ridge vent, special roofing underlayment, and other options. The sky is the limit. Tell us what you need and we will add it for you. And of course you will have full control over pricing you want the calculator to display.

We will feature 3 versions of free roof price calculator – one for asphalt shingles contractors, one for metal roofing contractors, and a third one for flat roof contractors. Each will give your respective pricing for each roofing category. You may also suggest another specialty roofing calculator – for example for copper work or rubber roof repair, or roof cleaning.

We are looking for your suggestions as far as free calculator pricing goes. I know that roof prices vary greatly throughout different states in US. Also we want to be able to offer a free and premium versions of our calculator to roofers in other parts of the world – US, Australia, New Zealand, and other English-speaking countries. IF you are a roofer from one of the above regions and are looking for a calculator adjusted to your geographic location (special roofing products, different currency and different pricing methods – per sq. meter for example instead of square feet in the US), feel free to leave us a comment with description of what exactly you are looking for and we will make every attempt to bring it to you – our visitors ASAP.

Roofing Calc and SEO:

SEO for roofing contractor's websites - increase your Search Engine traffic

With years of testing, we found a roofing calculator to be not only a very helpful site feature for our clients, but also an excellent SEO tool, that will drive as much as 15% of your website visitors. In some cases, a much higher percentage can be expected, but for us, it was actually bellow fifteen percent since we had many other interesting pages on our sites, which drove SE traffic. Despite the lower percentage of total traffic, our roofing calculator pages on two distinctly different roofing websites, were on average in top 3 most visited pages through-out the entire site.

Roofing Calculator traffic stats. The calculator page consistently pulls in almost 10% of all traffic

As you can see from the image above, our calculator page has almost 9% of all page views on one of our flat roofing website.

The secret to roofing calculator’s success in terms of SEO, is not just the fact that it is a great tool however. You will have to provide descriptions on how the calculator gets your customers their prices and which information to put in, and what are the limitations. We highly recommend that you read  the supporting content on the roofing calculator page at CoolFlatRoof.com and try to implement something similar on your site. Google cannot see the calculator code or results – what it sees is the content on the page and the fact that people go to this page and spend time there and come back! Talk about your roof prices and services and roof packages that you offer and also include many local “references” to your State, City / Town, Region or province. Put it into content – not at the bottom of each page.

For example:

“Roofing prices provided by this calculator are valid for Metro Boston and Most of Southeastern Massachusetts”

This is something that I would include on my calculator page.

Also include some description of how a home owner should go about measuring his or her roof to get the total roof area without much error.

Last but not least, link this calculator page from various other pages on your website and also get some external links to it. Allow your calculator to “age” and update the content – add some more information on how to use the calculator, or why you charge what you charge, and very soon it will start pulling in local and generic traffic, which will eventually convert into sales. Don’t be afraid to experiment, and good luck!
